What's even funnier is that it ends up performing slightly better under Windows thanks to better third party software (you can read more about this in the source, I couldn't copy the full table here because it's formatted in a weird way). Personally I find this completely ridiculous - given the price they ask for these things this is an unforgivable engineering oversight and a display of either incompetence or contempt for Apple customers. We think Apple's engineers should have figured this out and a simple software update would solve the issue, but we know that the manufacturer from Cupertino does not like to admit these things You still get the maximum Turbo Boost when a single core is stressed, and the performance is better and especially steadier under maximum load.

We recommend the manual adjustment of the CPU consumption for both model, but the 15-inch MBP in particular. Even very short load periods of ~30 seconds result in massive clock fluctuations, which will affect the performance. I mention this because I also started having high CPU usage with Photoshop which went away after I removed the old 6.0.3 plugin.Apple's philosophy of removing all consumption limitations is clearly counterproductive for the current 2018 MacBook Pro systems. That machine is able to secure an average clock speed. The excessive CPU usage was occurring both before and after I did that. Lee compares the 15-inch MacBook Pro’s performance to that of a 2018 Aero 15X, which uses an Intel i7 processor with a base clock of 2.2GHz. Something I thought was not related but might be, I had recently removed the old FontXplorer 6.0.3 plugin from InDesign - just dragged it into the trash from the plugins folder. This has not happened with any previous version of InDesign for me that I can recall - that would be at least several major updates. I use iStat Menus and Activity Monitor in the background to monitor all of this. Exporting causes my CPU usage to skyrocket even more than usual. So, if applying attributes to an object would normally cause the CPU to go up to 50%, CPU usage would be 150%. InDesign behaves "normally," if you will, except that there's an additional 100% CPU usage. I wasn't sure where to post this, but I hope this helps someone with a similar problem.īasically, on my Mac when GPU is on, it's like the minimum CPU usage of InDesign jumps to 100% and goes up from there. I had zero issues after about a month, and I heard people stopped experiencing problems since the update. I do believe the butterfly keyboard has been updated for the 2019 models, and Im almost positive they were updated for the 2018 line as well. Graphics card is a built-in Nvidia GeForce GT 750M I recently purchased the 2019 macbook pro w/ touchbar and maxed CPU & processor. If anyone has another solution which would let me keep using the GPU in InDesign, it would be greatly appreciated. I like the performance boost when using the GPU. I hope Adobe or Apple or both can get this fixed soon. To fix, I turned off GPU performance in the app's preferences and immediately CPU usage went back down to a reasonable level. I deleted the application cache, ran the Onyx app to clear out a whole bunch of other stuff and this did not work. Typically InDesign would always use at least 100% of one core with no files open.

After updating to Mac OS X High Sierra, I started seeing high CPU usage from InDesign when idle. I was running Creative Cloud 2018 on macOS sierra for several days with no problems. I figured out a fix based on a similar problem.
